The little house fly (Fannia canicularis) flies in an erratic pattern, often seen hovering in the air but rarely landing on food. This makes it less likely to contaminate food compared to other house flies.
These flies lay their eggs in decayed organic material, compost, or animal waste from pets like rabbits and chickens. Their life cycle takes about 24 days to complete. While they can be bothersome, their attraction to decaying matter limits their impact on indoor areas.
Muscina stabulans, commonly known as the false stable fly, is larger and bulkier than a typical house fly, with a dark gray appearance. It does not bite, unlike the true stable fly, but may enter homes to lay eggs on slightly spoiled food.
The larvae typically grow in decomposing vegetable matter and animal excrement. This fly’s life cycle is approximately 14 days. Though it doesn’t bite, its presence indoors can be frustrating, especially if eggs are laid. Recognizing its behavior helps in managing infestations more effectively.
The black garbage fly is a small, shiny insect about 1/5″ long. These slender flies thrive in areas with waste accumulation, especially in rural regions with irregular garbage collection. Though they aren’t often seen in urban homes, they can be found in greater numbers where waste management is lacking.
Their life cycle is short, about ten days, allowing them to develop quickly. Effective garbage disposal is key to minimizing their presence.
Stable flies resemble house flies, but their pointed, slender beak is designed for biting. They feed on livestock such as cattle and horses but will also bite humans, especially when they seek shelter indoors during rainy periods.
Stable flies are more than a minor annoyance—they can be a problem for livestock and pets. These pests thrive in areas with moist, decaying organic materials like manure and urine-soaked straw. Keeping these areas clean can help minimize their population.
Flesh flies (Sarcophaga species) are larger than house flies and recognized by their distinctive checkered abdomen. They are gray with black stripes across their thorax. Unlike most flies, flesh flies give birth to live maggots. These maggots thrive in decaying meat, dead animals, and excrement like dog waste. Flesh flies are commonly seen near carcasses or snails.
The flesh fly’s life cycle takes as little as eight days. These flies are usually found near decaying organic material. If you see slow-moving flies with a checkered abdomen, you may have a flesh fly issue.
Our fly control services at Bostonia Pest Control start with a thorough inspection. We investigate common breeding areas, including trash zones, standing water, and decaying matter. We also identify different fly species such as blow flies, drain flies, and stable flies.
We check plumbing systems to rule out leaks and blockages that could attract flies. With advanced tools, we detect larvae and adult flies in hard-to-reach spaces, allowing us to recommend treatments that effectively address your fly problem.
To allow us to address the fly issue efficiently, please clean the indoor and outdoor areas before our technician arrives. This will help us locate the source of the infestation more easily. Our technicians will inspect your property for any underlying plumbing issues.
For drain flies, we use specialized products that target both larvae and flies in the drains. We treat around food preparation zones while avoiding direct contact with surfaces. Traps are placed where fly activity is highest.
Bostonia Pest Control offers a monthly fly service designed to address problem areas like drains and garbage zones. Our expert team treats these locations to prevent flies from taking over your property.
We use environmentally safe products that target various species, including drain and stable flies. With regular monthly service, you’ll enjoy ongoing protection and a fly-free environment year-round.
